I set out to build the perfect autumnal forest shelter using only natural materials, primarily hazel. My goal was to create a cozy nest from scratch that would serve as a warm, comfortable refuge in the wilderness during the changing season. By weaving hazel branches, I aimed to make a unique, fully functional hut that highlights traditional survival and bushcraft skills.

I started by intricately weaving the hazel branches to form the structure of the hut, carefully shaping walls that are both sturdy and natural-looking. The weaving technique allowed me to create a flexible yet strong shelter that blends harmoniously with the forest environment. Inside, I also wove a comfortable bed and a small table to maximize the practical comfort of the space.
One of the main features of the hut is a compact stove, which I built to provide warmth and allow for cooking in this off-grid setting. Cooking a delicious dinner on the stove’s hot coals became a satisfying part of the experience, combining survival skills with the simple joy of preparing food in nature. The stove’s heat made the shelter a cozy retreat against the chilly autumn air.
Living within the hut, surrounded by the natural calm of the forest, deepened my connection to the land and the ancient craft of bushcraft weaving. This project was a full immersion into wilderness living—slow, thoughtful, and skillful—showing how creativity and tradition can come together to meet basic human needs.
By the end of the video, I had crafted a warm and inviting nest-like shelter that is both functional and beautiful. This experience illustrates the value of natural materials and ancient weaving techniques for survival shelter building in the wild, making it a true bushcraft accomplishment.
